February 3, 2010 v. Newport Harbor
The Sailors visited the Aztecs on a warm Wednesday afternoon. The Esperanza side looked to be in good attacking form, hounding the Newport Harbor goal, but a score eluded them until the 5th minute of the match.
Scott Rice (9) left-footed a corner kick from the right side of the Sailor goal, and Chris Berkeley (3) tapped in the loose ball for point-blank range, for a 1-0 Aztec lead.
In the 11th minute, Esperanza added to their lead when Damon Baker (10) received the ball 25 yards out on the left side, and, while attempting to cross the ball, chipped it over the Newport goal keeper. The ball floated to the upper corner of the far side of the goal, and the Aztecs had a 2-0 lead, which they took into halftime.
The Sailors got one back, to make the score 2-1, but the unyielding Aztec defense made the second Esperanza goal stand up, and the Aztecs won the match 2-1.
