1-29-10 EHS v Marina (2-0)
On Jan.29th the
Aztecs hosted Marina in a
game that appeared one-sided with the exception of scoring.
The Aztecs started with 2
early
corner kicks from Wolfrom that fell short of goals from Jeremy Stith
and a near header goal from Eddie Arellano. Arellano took another hard shot on
goal from 18 yards out that flew high over the goal. With 18 minutes remaining
Daniel Borst took a
corner kick and the Aztecs scrambled in the box but couldn’t get a
clear shot off. With 14 minutes remaining Jeremy Stith received a ball and
moved it across the top of the box and took a hard shot for the Aztecs 1st
goal. With minutes remaining the Aztecs continued to pressure Marina and
nearly scored when Doyen passed the ball to Evan Roche who took a hard shot
that just missed. The period ended 1-0.
Marina started the 2nd period
energized and nearly scored on 2 early corner kicks. The Aztecs returned with
aggressive play from Borst, Wolfrom, Arellano and Jeremy Stith. Doyen entered
the game with his usual high energy play and nearly scored twice. Wolfrom
dominated the middle of the field receiving passes from Borst, Stith, Price
and Hodis and then moving the ball around the box for scoring attempts. With 8
minutes remaining Wolfrom dribbled past several Marina defenders and then fell
short on a goal shot in front of the net. 3 minutes later Wolfrom again took
advantage with an assist from Evan Roche he received the ball and dribbled
past defenders and took a hard shot for a goal. The game ended with another
Aztec victory 2-0. Another excellent goalkeeping game from Jerrod Stith and
strong defensive efforts from Warwick, Pellegrini, Diaz and TJ.
